OFFICIAL COMMISSIONING OF GALEDYERTU SUB-COUNTY

Galedyertu sub-county

The unending border conflicts between residents of Tana River and Kitui counties in Kalalani area, Wayu Ward in the newly established Galedyertu Sub-County and the frequent attacks by suspected Al-Shabaab militants in parts of Tana Delta Sub-County along the Garsen – Lamu road, took center stage in a meeting between H.E the Governor Maj. (Rtd) Dr. Dhadho Gaddae Godhana, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Co-ordination of National Government Prof. Kithure Kindiki, local political leaders and the Coast Regional and Tana River County Security and Inteligence Committees that was held today Wednesday 20th September 2023 in Wayu.

H.E the Governor, said the National Government needs to step up its efforts and put into place mechanisms that will effectively resolve once and for all, the security issues that the County has been facing, which have led to loss of lives and destruction of property worth millions of shillings.

These sentiments were also echoed by among other leaders, Deputy Governor Mwalimu Mahadh Ali Loka, Senetor Danson Mungatana, Women Representative Amina Dika, Galole MP Said Hiribae and Garsen MP Ali Wario.

On his part, The Cabinet Secretary Hon. Prof. Kithure Kindiki says the Government will be deploying special forces and elite units to firmly deal with and distabilize armed criminals that have been terrorising residence of both Tana River and Lamu Counties.

He also says his ministry will set up more police stations, provide working vehicles and modern equipment, that will help security forces deal effectively with the ever-increasing threats from armed militant groups within the two Counties.

The newly established Galedyertu Sub-County, which was curved away from the larger Galole Sub-County, was today also officially commissioned as a fully operational administrative unit.
