BOARD FOR PERSONS LIVING WITH DISABILITIES SWORN IN

A seven (7) member board for persons living with disabilities in the County of Tana River that will be chaired by Mr. Abdi Yusuf Abdirahman, tasked with the responsibility of ensuring that the interests of PWDs are taken care of was sworn in today Tuesday 19th Septermber 2023.

H.E the Governor Maj. (Rtd) Dr. Dhadho Gaddae Godhana says his government has been keen on ensuring that all vulnerable groups in the County, including PWDs, women and youth, get equal opportunities.

“We are among the few counties in Kenya that have functional boards for persons living with disabilities. It is my hope that the members who have been sworn in today, will have the interests of the hundreds of other persons with disabilities. You are here to serve on behalf of all others.” H.E the Governor said.

The Governor’s sentiments were echoed by the CECM, Gender and Social Services Hon. Abbas Kunyo who called on the members of the new board to serve diligently and work towards improving the livelihoods of other PWDs in the County.

Hon. Kunyo says “We shall give you all the necessary support that you need. And we believe that we have the best in the board. So now it is upto you to give leadership and direction to the rest.”

H.E the Governor also inaugurated the board of trustees for the Tana River Centre for Innovation and Youth Empowerment, which will be chaired by Madam Rita Balagha.

The board will oversee the day to day running of the institution.
